Bobby Pockette and his husband, Joshua Lemmer, have experienced the same satisfaction of catering to long-time return South Haven visitors, first at Inn at Park and now at the newly renovated Waters View Inn.

The couple moved to South Haven from Minneapolis upon going into business at Inn at Park with Joshua’s aunt, Carol Ann Hall. One day while out on a run, they saw a for sale sign at what was then the Last Resort Inn. They popped in to chat only to find that the property had been sold. When that deal fell through, they looked and said to each other “let’s do it.”

Now in their second season at Waters View Inn, appropriately named since it offers amazing views of Lake Michigan and the South Haven harbor, the pair have updated all the rooms, the guest kitchen and dining room.

The family and pet-friendly resort has 16 rooms and suites with private bathrooms and is a quick walk from South Haven’s famous North Beach. The massive back deck serves as a sunset gathering spot.

“South Haven’s beaches are world-class,” Bobby said, “and we love sharing them with our guests who just enjoy everything we have to offer at the inn and what the city has to offer. This is a special return destination, and we love hearing about why it’s important for our guests.”

Those conversations happen organically from the moment guests check-in, while enjoying breakfast, or spending leisure time around the lounges and outdoor communal spaces. Hearing people’s stories and what they want in a vacation experience helps the inn serve guests, Bobby said.

He’s found the inn’s large property allows families and friends to gather in a friendly environment that’s different than a chain hotel while still having separate rooms for retreat at night.

The Waters View Inn prime location gives guests easy access to all of the city’s events in addition to the warm sands, nearby clean beaches, and lush public parks. Outdoor opportunities for bike riding or other adventures also await nearby, Bobby noted, with the Kal-Haven Trail slated for reopening on May 17, 2024, after a major months-long resurfacing project.

“When people come (to South Haven and to Waters View Inn), they feel welcome and comfortable,” he said.

“There’s always something to do, even when it’s nothing,” he said. “You can relax however you want.”
